Loved the analysis and the storytelling! There might be a Hollywood bias in this though. Of course the majority of sci-fi is produced there, so it's a reasonable bias. Would be curious to group by cultures/continents and not just eras.
I wrestled with this question a bit and I think there's probably a US-centric bias – and maybe even a US coastal/urban bias (like so many things.) I think I'd have to adjust the methodology a bit to look at films produced on different continents, or perhaps look at sci-fi books since that gives us a lot more geographic diversity.
Would you ever consider sharing some of the prompts that you tried and/or found success with for assessing certain attributes of the films? I'd be curious to see the evolution!
Oh that's a great idea! I'll try to write up a post in the next few weeks. It's nothing too mind-blowing – just being really specific, manually checking some random rows, and then adjusting.
